Twelve Months: January by Adam Northgate

The New Year sees a new author join the Screeve family. Adam Northgate is the author of a new series, Twelve Months. The first chapter lays the foundation of what will prove to be a great story and leaves us intrigued and wanting to read more.

Please give Adam a huge Screeve welcome and send him your best wishes, thanks and comments on his new story.

You can email Adam through me at david.heulfryn@screeve.org, and I will pass on all your messages. You can also leave comments on the website and rate the story.

Rival’s Revenge by David Heulfryn

I have a soft spot for this story. It has several things going for it; rugby, exhibitionism and sex in the group showers. As the title would suggest it’s about rival rugby teams. The scrum-half from each team have an unhealthy rivalry after one is seriously injured during a previous match. The next season they make a very unusual bet to settle the score.

Reading this again makes me want to write more rugby stories. I have included a rugby stadium in Cockaigne, perhaps that will give me some opportunities.

A Bit of Slap and Tickle by David Heulfryn

It’s amazing how the memories come back to you when you read something or see something, and reading made me remember the incident that brought it all about.

Back in the early 2000s, I was looking to buy a house and this estate agent really was late and came up with a bullshit excuse. We must have been waiting around for nearly an hour just to be shown around the house. But the fiasco didn’t end there. He turned up with the wrong fucking keys so we couldn’t get in. I was absolutely furious. We never remade the appointment and I never bought the house.

But I do remember the estate agent. He was young, sexy and did have the most beautiful grey eyes. It was just a shame he let me down that day.

This Life of Brian by David Heulfryn

I recall that this story was originally written as a series of blog posts. Ten parts, each around a thousand words each telling you what this particular boy does when his exams are finished and he leaves school.

It was an experiment to try and give readers some short flash fiction to keep them entertained between more substantial stories. It was a nice idea but not sure it actually worked. The writing was done quickly and I can tell it wasn’t edited properly. I have done some minor editing now but not made any substantial changes.

It’s a nice enough story if you like to read about sixteen-year-old boys sucking and fucking. I seem to think I tried to make it humourous, but it never really came off. I also originally wrote it in a slight UK northern dialect. It kind of worked in the first part but it tailed off, so I edited out the colloquialisms. I know my UK readers would understand, but I have a worldwide readership and want them to be able to enjoy the story.

Interestingly, I have an unfinished story from years ago about a mining family in the midlands, set in the early 1900’s. It’s written in thick dialect. One day I might finish it as I do like it and it has a lot of promise.

Lockdown 3

We are nearly a week into the third national UK lockdown. This means that I have had to work from home again.

Some people seem to be getting on well with working from home, but I find it difficult to motivate myself and get much less done. I also get no, or little, writing done.

I find it difficult to separate home and work, mainly because I don’t have a dedicated workspace at home, but even if I did I’m not sure I would have the discipline to go to the workspace. It is also very lonely, working in a small room on your own.

Having experienced the lockdowns, I have come to realise that I need the human interaction I get at work.

My problems are small compared to what is happening in the world. My respect goes to those key workers that have supported us all in life and death.

Restrained Surprise by David Heulfryn

Restrained Surprise was my fifth and final story for TommyHawksFantasyWorld. This story was published back in 2006 and subsequently added to Screeve a year later.

Before I tell you about my story, let me just sing the praises for TommyHawksFantasyWorld, he has written many great stories, many in the fantasy/sci-fi genre. He no longer operates a subscription site but sells his stories as eBooks.

My story came from a desire to dip a toe into the world of S&M but being of a delicate nature, only in its mildest sense. And this was a fantasy of mine, pity my boyfriend wasn’t around to indulge me. Nowadays, I’m more inclined to something a bit rougher. I am older and more adventurous now.

A Bitter Pole by David Heulfryn

After reading this story again, I remembered how I came about to write it. I was in the process of relocating to London and was living in a hotel under the flight path of Heathrow airport. Most of the hotel staff were of Eastern European descent and I recall the attitude of the natives about. I hate to say it but they treated them like servants rather than hotel staff. There was so much disrespect towards them that I felt ashamed. I enjoyed talking to them, they were fascinating and I admired their courage in moving to a different country. Something I would do about five years later.

This story was my attempt to portray that attitude. In hindsight, it seems a very nasty story about the abuse of a man who is considered inferior. I will be honest with all of you, this is a story that I don’t like and wouldn’t hesitate to only give it half a star. It fails to shame the attitude of the man taking advantage of the hotel employee and it also fails in being erotic.

Give Us Your Feedback

None of the authors gets paid when their stories appear on Screeve, they only allow their writing to appear in the hope that it will bring enjoyment to the readers.

At the end of every story, I say that feedback is the only payment our authors get, and we all appreciate that feedback, it can spur us on the continue a series or write new stories. Constructive feedback can also make those stories better.

So if you have any New Year’s Resolutions to make, then make one, a point of giving feedback. Let us know what you want more of and less of. Please make your comments and suggestions constructive, let the authors know what you enjoyed and what you didn’t, what worked and what didn’t. Recognise good writing when you read it, but just because a story isn’t to your taste doesn’t make it bad. I’m not into scat, but I can recognise a good story that contains it should I read one.

I added a rating system last year, so please continue to rate the stories. Also, consider leaving comments, they can be totally anonymous, no email is required. If you are more confident, then email the author; we all like to hear from our readers.

Happy new year and keep reading.
