On the 25th July 2025, the UK’s Online Safety Act 2025 came into force. This meant that platforms have a legal duty to protect children online. Platforms are now required to use highly effective age assurance to prevent children from accessing pornography, or content which encourages self-harm, suicide or eating disorder content.
Basically, from that date, I could no longer see a cock on Twitter (or X if you prefer). I changed my location to the US in the settings, and that fixed it for a few days. Then they got wise to that and must have used my IP location to restrict me again. So, no more cocks again. Then I used my VPN, and that did the trick. But I had to keep my location as the US.
Despite the FAQ on how to verify your age to view restricted content, I couldn’t find any instructions to do so, unless I wanted to pay for a premium account. I didn’t.
Now, after many tries and using my driving licence and a selfie, I have finally verified that I am over eighteen, by many years.
So I can now see cocks galore again! Hurray!

So if a teen or pre-teen who is overweight, sees a photo online of a person their age, clothed, who is not overweight and then decides to become anorexic, it’s the fault of that photo they saw online?
There are a lot of critics if this law in uk, it’s not perfect. The intention of the law is to protect minors from extreme content and just looking at a skinny person online isn’t necessarily going to cause any issues. But what will cause mental distress is if that person is constantly bombarded with images of skinny models and being told that you should look like that and you are awful and weak and horrible for not looking like the image. As I say, it’s not perfect and is a ‘sledgehammer to crack a nut’. One object of the law is to prevent minors from watching extreme pornography and then thinking that is normal.
