General
by David Heulfryn
Anxiety, stress, nerves
Thoughts scattered and my mind elsewhere
The wait
Enema, spasms, pains
Thoughts focused and my mind on the moment
Almost time
Naked, gown, slippers
The wait is over and I feel relief
The walk down
BP cuff, electrodes, venflon
Watching them work efficiently to put me under
The fluid
No tiredness, no fading, suddenly nothing
Minutes and hours of ignorance, no control, no knowledge
The time
Suddenly back, drowsy, oxygen
Questions and concerns but no pain
The recovery
Fidgeting, groaning, need to sleep
Moved back to the ward and my bed
The peace
