  1. This post is not related to the tragic article in this folder about circumcision. I am an American and am circumcised, along with my brother. We are not jewish, nor muslim. In both of our cases, we were circumcised shortly after birth so thankfully there’s no memory of it. Now, our father on the other hand was NOT circumcised and growing up seeing him naked on occasion when I was growing up, I was puzzled by his (beautiful) penis but never dared asked him why his was different. I learned about circumcision officially during sex ed in junior high but couldn’t understand why my father didn’t want his son’s penises to be like his. At some point in the U.S., after World War II, I suspect the medical society powers that be must have had a campaign that newborn baby boys should be circumcised, probably for health reason$. I don’t know and if any one does know if that is the case, please share.

    1. There is theory (I’m not sure if it’s been proven) but I heard it suggested that US Doctors promoted circumcision so they could charge the parents, or their insurance company, more money for the birth. The health benefits are debatable, but the money coming in from promoting circumscision isn’t. I also hear that it is becoming less popular in the US, although the majority of boys are still circumcised.

      1. Yes. Circumcisions are done in the hospitals and there is a CPT code for them which means it is a “add-on charge” to a hospital stay for a baby. Pure profit for the hospital at the expense of the foreskin.
