an excerpt from an essay “My Rite-of-Passage”.
We potential draftees underwent a physical, courtesy of Uncle Sam’s Selective Service. After examining our upper orifices & giving urine samples, he told us to ascend a curtained platform. Uncle Sam’s Proctologist told us to drop our undershorts & bend over; he went from butt-to-butt s p r e a d i n g our “cheeks” to check for hemorrhoids, tumors, hidden drugs? or maybe to see if we wiped (enough) after poopin’.
